Within my first two weeks as a social seller, I’ve seen a 500% increase in the views of my LinkedIn profile and added 80+ new connections to my network.
If you’re a member of my network on LinkedIn or Twitter you may have noticed a massive increase in my activity level as of late. If you’ve checked out any of the content that I’ve been posting you will likely have noticed that it is all centered around “Social Selling.” What you may not know is why this increase in my activity has taken place. Here’s my story for anyone out there that’s interested.
Two weeks ago I started a new job as a Principal (and soon to be Sales Trainer) at a small but rapidly expanding online sales training organization named Sales for Life. Sales for Life has quickly become a global leader in social selling training as well as a helpful resource to sales reps and managers, like myself, that have found it difficult to continually meet their growing sales targets. Basically, Sales for Life can train you to be a social seller.
My Background Before Social Selling
Prior to joining the Sales for Life team, I had been a sales rep and manager at several different software companies. While I have always done well as a salesman, I was finding it increasing difficult to meet my sales quotas using traditional sales methods over the past few years. This prompted me to begin researching new sales strategies that would help me differentiate myself from competitors. It was at this point that I came across the concept of social selling and Sales for Life.
For those of you who don’t know what social selling is, the basic concept is that cold calls and email campaigns have become a less effective means of communication over the last decade as a result of evolving buyer behavior. To adapt to these changing times, social selling was developed to help sales reps connect with prospects and position themselves as insightful thought leaders during their buyers’ purchasing process rather than being pushy quota-driven annoyances that no one wants to deal with. (For additional clarity on what social selling is, check out this short video Traditional Selling vs. Social Selling).
This idea really resonated with me. I began reading a ton of social selling success stories from reps just like me and knew that I had to get involved.
Starting the Social Selling Journey
So, now here I am. Over the past two weeks, I have undergone extensive training via the Social Selling Mastery course from Sales for Life. During this time I have been sharing both content that our organization creates, as well as third-party content that my network may be interested in reading.
The results have been extraordinary! Within just two weeks of having begun my journey to becoming a Social Selling Master, I have seen a 500% increase in the views of my LinkedIn profile, added 80+ new connections to my network and opened 4 new sales opportunities for our organization. I have also received a huge amount of gratitude from people in my network that have found the information I’m posting useful.
