5 Marketing Podcasts to Listen To in 2016

Marketing Podcast

Confession: before coming to Uberflip, I wasn’t really a big fan of podcasts (except for Serial. And I need answers — what’s the deal with Best Buy? What about Jay? Is Adnan guilty or not!?).

I find it very difficult to listen to podcasts while completing other tasks because I end up not focusing on either the podcast or what I am working on. I have to be driving, running/walking, or staring at a wall (ooh, fun) to successfully listen to spoken word.

My coworkers at Uberflip, on the other hand, do not have this problem and are pretty obsessed with podcasts. Since I walk to work, I thought I’d give some a try during my commute and see if I can handle it without walking into a tree.

I’m happy to report that I have yet to injure myself during podcast listening, and have even found a few that I think other marketers would enjoy! So here you go:

1. The Daily Boost

Daily Boost Podcast

The Daily Boost is a great starter podcast. Since I was wary of my ability to pay attention, I was happy to see that The Daily Boost tends to only be around 10 minutes in length. Score. The Daily Boost is (obviously) a daily podcast so it’s a great way to start your work day. It isn’t specifically a marketing podcast, but it gives great tips on focus, setting yourself up for success, and other personal development topics. There are a lot of focus/procrastination podcasts which intrigue me. I’ll get to them all… eventually.

2. Content Warfare

Content Warfare Podcast

Content Warfare’s host, Ryan Hanley, interviews the Internet’s best content marketers in each episode. Having different guests really mixes it up and gives great topic diversity. In a few episodes, Ryan also reads chapters of his book, Content Warfare, which is a great way to “try before you buy”.

3. Shopify Masters

shopify masters podcast

Shopify Masters is a great podcast for anyone doing eCommerce, but don’t let that deter you from listening if you’re in a different field. There are great interviews about blogging, email tactics, and other marketing trends with insights from entrepreneurs who have had great success. One of my favorite episodes was how one marketer got over 600 contacts from spending only $90 in Facebook ads. Give it a listen to find out how this ridiculous feat was achieved.

4. The Marketing Book Podcast

Marketing Book Podcast

If you love reading, The Marketing Book Podcast is for you. Host Douglas Burdett interviews authors on different marketing topics. It’s an awesome way to discover new authors and hear from your favorites. Notes from the episodes are also put on the podcast’s website so you don’t have to worry about remembering the important bits while you’re listening (especially if you’re like me and listen while on the go).

5. Hit Publish

Hit Publish Podcast

I find it a lot easier to listen to anyone who has a British accent. I don’t know what it is, but they just hold my attention better! Amy Harrison of Hit Publish is a clever Brit who focuses on techniques and tips for beginner to intermediate-level marketers. There’s something about Hit Publish that reminds me of old radio shows, making it stand out from typical podcasts. In one episode, you hear Amy “cooking” and setting up a table for her interview with Joe Pulizzi. It’s quite entertaining and really gets you interested in the story to come.

Honorable Mention: Seth Godin’s Startup School

Seth Godin Podcast

This isn’t an active podcast, but rather a recording one of Seth’s workshops. The total workshop was published over the course of a few months, but us lucky folks who are just finding out about it now can listen to it all at once! Yay! If you’re working at a startup (or even a company with a startup mentality), give it a listen. How often do you get the chance to listen to a Seth Godin workshop?
